Alex is a temari instructor (shihan) certified by the Japan Temari Association (日本手まりの会).
She is a longtime foreign resident of Japan, having lived there for almost two decades. Passionate about crafting her whole life, she has studied and practiced various traditional Japanese fiber arts, including sashiko embroidery, kogin-zashi, and weaving. However, Japanese temari balls, with their intricate geometry, became her true passion.
In 2020, she founded her own temari jewelry brand, creating designs that honor tradition while complementing modern fashion.
She also holds an MA in product design. Prior to moving to Tokyo, she worked as a designer and art director in New York.
